Beautiful World Class, ONE of a Kind, Black Opal, #T3000
Weight 775 Carats, Multicolor, 85x109 mm
|
|
This is the LARGEST finished BLACK OPAL we have ever seen and weighs 775 carats.
DIMENSIONS: thickness is from 5 to 14 mm, length is at the longest point 109mm, with
at the widest part is 85 mm and the narrower part is 55mm graduated as per the photo.
CERTIFICATION: GIA has identified it as genuine opal and the miner at Lightning Ridge
calls it a medium black opal.
COLORS: all the colors of the rainbow, brilliant blue, green, lemon, orange indigo, purple
and some red.
"RIDGE VALUE" puts this stone at $4,000 per carat = $3, 020,000. Since the
miner wants to "cash out" the reserve price today is $ 600,000 + delivery, insurance,
etc. We can't say enough about this stone. COMPARISON: The biggest Lightning Ridge
stone that we are aware of was 319 carats, and sold to Zales for $650,000, who donated it to the
Smithsonian. Prices today are five times what they were when Zales bought the other stone.

W-c081x 14.9gr
This Coober Pedy piece of opal has its veins split it two and on the bias
compared to the shape of the piece.
It is hard to photograph so that it can be perceived easily. Think of two
pancakes of fire with potch inbetween, slanted in the piece of opal. We
think that this is very good VALUE at this price per gram. One seam is
green crystal and one is blue. The stronger of the two is the green seam. |

Wc243-13.7gr
This 13.7 gram piece is very unique. It has been out of the dry Coober Pedy
area at least 12+ years. It is mostly true crystal, but has a face with
white potch and some color. We left the white on the stone because you may
choose to use it for the back, eg. strength. Fire is bright: 7 of 10 and
multicolored, with dense pinflash. Shows well even in muted light. This is
a winner. |

W C03-200, 1 oz
This is classic beginner's opal --mostly potch-- great for
practice and learning, with some color too!!
This material ranges between $7.50 to $40.00 per ounce. Note the small
color areas and waste; however for learning it is the preferred type. |
